Episode 25: Hebrew leaves plenty of room for scientific study and we explore a few clues God left us about the Day 6 creatures. Then, a reminder of the foundational beliefs of kinds vs. fixism helps the kids know we follow the Bible not Aristotle. Followed by a fascinating report on Polar Bears!

We’ve made it to Day 6 of Creation Week

And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.
And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind:… Genesis 1:24-25

It’s time to take a look at the basic kinds of animals God created that day:

Hebrew LessonHebrew Scroll, WikiMedia

  • Living= alive, flowing (like water), active
  • Creature= Nephesh= having a soul, mind, being
  • Kind= Meen (more below)
  • Cattle= Behaymah= beast, livestock
  • Creeping thing= creeping, gliding (like sea creatures)
  • Beast of the earth= all living things on dry land

Bugs and Creepy Crawlies

Anything God left from the day before, like earthworms, spiders, and centipedes would have been created here; basically all the invertebrates that don’t live in the water.

Mammals, Lizards, and Such

San Diego Zoo has  a fun page on the characteristics that make creatures mammals (with optional background jungle noise). You can click from there to the other main classes of creatures we covered (plus birds).

I mention last week’s article How Long Did Adam Need to Name the Animals? for an overview of these kinds of creatures.

Baraminology

Remember the word, Meen, for the “kinds” of animals? The Hebrew word, Bara, means created, so creation scientists made a new word for the “study of created kinds” by combining these two with the usual Greek “-ology”.

The reason we needed a new word is no evolutionist is going to help us see how far back you can trace a species ancestors before hitting a genetic brick genetic wall. They believe all organisms keep going backwards to a single first ancestor. We know better.

I’ve writen on this a little, and you can find out a lot more by using SearchCreation.org.

And, new for 2016, you can get tickets for your family to visit the Ark Encounter and experience current scientific ideas on these Kinds in person.

Polar Bears

Polar Bear on Ice, WikiMediaResources used to study them:

Right at the end I asked why God would have given polar bears sharp teeth even before they adapted to a diet of seal. Here’s the video we mention:
