Thanksgiving, plus Black Ink Friday?

My family is busy getting ready for a big trip down south.  My dear husband has to be a good pastor and stay behind, but the rest of us are heading out next week. On the way down we’re stopping at the Creation Museum and then Mammoth Cave National Park the next day.  I’ll be sure to let you all know how that all goes.

Since this is the Thanksgiving Holiday, it is the perfect time to tell you all how our Creator God has been blessing my efforts this year.  Since I started blogging, I have earned exactly $0.  BUT, I got

  • that full scholarship to a Christian writers conference (worth $695)
  • won a free book I would have never heard about otherwise ($8 plus shipping)
  • am getting a Christmas devotional published in a book, so I get a free copy ($10 plus shipping). It’s not creation related, but still helps on my resume!
  • have raised over $35 for Ravi Zacharias Ministries, International (through Good Search), and…
  • a lady saw that I was going to the Creation Museum and has offered to help with tickets (over $60 value)
  • all of that leaves out the hundreds of contacts with all of you.  Priceless!

The great thing is, none of this matters for taxes. :-D

I’m not going to worry about the trip to Israel I’m hoping to go Pro to afford someday.  That’s God’s business.  I just keep taking each step as it comes up and keep my eyes peeled for opportunities.

So, where does the Black Ink come in?  Well, remember that ZonderKidz book I’m supposed to be working on?  I wrote it on Wednesday afternoon; it took about an hour and a half.  If you’ve ever done something that requires a lot of prep time, you know how understated that is, but the actual writing was done way faster than the average post here!

Now, I’ve got to write a resume and biography for the editors and send it all off on Monday.

What happens after that is up to God!

Oh, yes, there are some deals that I’ll probably take advantage of this weekend.  Creation Today has deals through Sunday only,  Institute for Creation Research has some curriculum and DVD specials on,  and the Northwest Creation Network has some great collection pricing!

Doing chores today I realized it would be a shame not to share the programs I was listening to with you all.   There are a number of other things I try to keep up with, but occasionally something is so amazing or vitally important I pass them on.

English: view into Grand Canyon from South Rim...

Each one is just under a half hour long; odds are, you can figure out some way to fit listening/watching them into your schedule.  The Creation Today ones are great to share with your kids, too, especially when you watch the most recent one!

It had been a while since Creation Today had done a new show (they were busy with some seminar somewhere….), but the last couple of weeks they’ve gotten right back into it:

I was in prison and ye came unto me - Eglwys L...

Then, while I was preparing supper I started to catch up on my Ravi Zacharias podcasts.  This two part speech on why there is suffering and how can a person know what true good and evil are is so good I had to pass it on as well.  Note how he brings creation and God as Creator in toward the end. There is a reason the atheists are attacking us here!

We cannot afford to just slide along through life without thinking through the big issues.  Even if major suffering never crosses your thresh hold, it will happen to many around you.  Just saying things like, “Jesus loves you, it will be fine” doesn’t cut it!  But there are Biblical ways to look at the world that speak truth and hope to the deepest part of our souls.

But in all things showing ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses,
In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings;
By pureness, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghost, by love unfeigned,
By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armor of righteousness on the right hand and on the left,  II Corinthians 6:4-7

Worldview and You

Ravi Zacharias signing books at the Future of Truth conference (2004) at Moody Memorial Church in Chicago, Illinois.

I’ve mentioned a couple of times that I use GoodSearch to find things on the internet and now it’s time to tell you who I support with this program!  Ravi Zacharias has been preaching and speaking around the world for many years about Jesus, humanity and the need for a Christian worldview to make sense of our lives.  When I was about 12, I saw him speak at a church on the north side of Chicago and I’ve been interested in him ever since.

His sermons are my 2nd favorite things to listen to on my iPod while I do my chores.  Dr. Zacharias has an unusual ministry that focuses on the very smart and “wise” people of the world.  He speaks and works at Cambridge and Oxford in England.  He has spoken to many of the most powerful people in the world, people whom most Christians never have a chance to talk to.  He uses some very big words and big ideas, but his whole focus is on pointing people to Jesus Christ and the life and meaning He offers to everyone.

I’ve noticed over the past few months how often the beginning of Genesis comes up in his speeches and I know it’s not an accident.  If we let go of God as Creator and Adam and Eve as our first parents, we lose all of the foundation of our worldview.  Life becomes just a squishy mess that we can mold however we want to, but that can’t support us in hard times.  Continue reading
