The Earth seen from Apollo 17.

Our mother, or our specially designed home from God?

When my siblings were young, we had a copy of the cartoon version of Charlotte’s Web.  Near the beginning there was a lovely lullaby for Wilber that was all about “mother earth and father time.”  Well, this idea of earth being our mother and time being our father is rather common in our society.

I’m not going to send you to the pages that make this claim, because the idea of the earth being our mother is bumping into straight up religion.  Have you ever seen the name “Gaia” on a product?  It’s the title of one of the Greek goddesses, the one that symbolizes the earth.  In Latin, her name was Terra.  Yup, like Terra Firma: Land.

According to the Greeks, the goddess Gaia was the first thing to exist after Chaos (I think you know what he symbolized).  Her story is really disgusting, so I’m not telling it here except that Kronos [Time] was supposed to be one of her sons.   Odds are you have run into this name because it has become very popular in our culture.  Exercise equipment, health food and many other things are named after her.  Can you guess why she is so popular now?

I even ran across an educational page from the University of Barcelona on Evolution that is named after Gaia.  It’s not terrible, but it won’t teach you anything you didn’t know before.  Not surprisingly, the Greeks were the first group to believe in something much like Darwin’s Evolution.

Recently, modern scientists have developed something known as the “Gaia Hypothesis” which claims that everything on earth, living and non-living, is connected.  If you’ve ever watched Star Wars you know what I’m talking about.  Have a look at these quotes from Wikipedia’s page:

English: Earth has a hydrosphere, lithosphere,...

“Topics of interest include how the biosphere and the evolution of life forms affect (and in some cases contribute to) the stability of global temperature, ocean salinity, oxygen in the atmosphere and other factors of habitability.”

“The Gaia theory posits that the Earth is a self-regulating complex system involving the biosphere, the atmosphere, the hydrospheres and the pedosphere, tightly coupled as an evolving system. The theory sustains that this system as a whole, called Gaia, seeks a physical and chemical environment optimal for contemporary life.”

“In 2001, the International Humanist and Ethical Union signed the Amsterdam Declaration, starting with the statement “The Earth System behaves as a single, self-regulating system with physical, chemical, biological, and human components”.”

If you’re paying attention even a little bit, you know that how people are messing up the wonderful world is a big deal right now even for people who want to say that there is no Creator God.  Well, knowingly, or unknowingly, they are falling for this earth goddess idea.  I did a search for “Gaia hypothesis” at .edu sites and came back with schools like the U. of Michigan, Hawaii, Stanford, Yale, and a whole bunch of other schools that are talking about this idea.  I even found a page where professors from around the world can announce that they believe this hypothesis.

The older name for this kind of religious belief is called Pantheism.  This means the idea that everything and everybody is a little piece of “god”.

Not surprisingly, there are scientists who don’t like this idea either because they want to worship themselves or the true Creator God.  But you will find this idea of Mother Earth and humans upsetting “her” balance all over the popular science world.

As for Father Time, you already know how much the Evolutionists are in love with that idea.  Without millions and billions of years of the stuff, they are sunk!  I’ve written a little on this and Answers in Genesis has written much more.

Let us turn our hearts to our true Creator, Designer, Lord and Savior and worship Him and Him alone!

Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the [creation] more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.  Romans 1:25

Thy hands have made me and fashioned me: give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments.  Psalm 119:73

I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.  Psalm 139:14
