Dinos and People: The Ica Stones

Ica Stone showing Triceratops and other dinosaurs, WikiCommons

I don’t share things like these often, and never carelessly, because the worst thing we could do is rely on false evidence when there is a world full of real evidence for God’s Word.

For those new to this site, I think you will enjoy one of my longest posts pointing out the strengths and weaknesses of the case for the dino statuary of Mexico. It is quite a story when you become a serious detective who really wants to know the facts.

Today I’m going to send you to a Creationist website/blog I ran into on Good Search.

The site’s name is “Yec Headquarters 6 Day Creation.” YEC is short for “Young Earth Creationist.” In other words, someone who takes the Bible’s record as straight forward and accurate. They have an excellent article on the Ica Stones of Peru.

First, let’s see what Wikipedia thinks of these carved rocks with lots of dinosaurs and people on them:

English: Ica stones” In 1975 Uschuya and another farmer named Irma Gutierrez de Aparcana confirmed that they had forged the stones they gave to Cabrera by copying the images from comic books, text books and magazines.[2] Later, Uschuya recanted the forging story during an interview with a German journalist, saying that he had claimed they were a hoax to avoid imprisonment for selling archaeological artifacts. In 1977, during the BBC documentary Pathway to the Gods, Uschuya produced an Ica stone with a dentist’s drill and claimed to have produced a fake patina by baking the stone in cow dung.[3] That same year, another BBC documentary was released with a skeptical analysis of Cabrera’s stones, and the new-found attention to the phenomenon prompted Peruvian authorities to arrest Uschuya, as Peruvian law prohibits the sale of archaeological discoveries. Uschuya recanted his claim that he had found them and instead admitted they were hoaxes, saying “Making these stones is easier than farming the land.” He engraved the stones using images in books and magazines as examples and knives, chisels and a dental drill.[9] He also said that he had not made all the stones. He was not punished, and continued to sell similar stones to tourists as trinkets.[3] The stones continued to be made and carved by other artists as forgeries of the original forgeries.”

English: Ica stonesDo you thing it more likely that he (like they say the Mexicans did) made these stones by studying comic books and such, or do you think these are ancient originals along with some direct copies?

Our beliefs as Christians are not based on blind faith that cannot stand the stress of careful examination. Go ahead, read for yourself what the deniers claim, then compare it with the evidence for their authenticity.

Remember, it is possible for someone to admit that dinosaurs were alive not too long ago and still refuse to submit to the Creator God. My prediction is that soon the evidence will be so overwhelming that the Evolutionists will be forced to change their story. But they will never abandon their worldview. Some people will escape the snare and find Jesus’ life, but not everyone.

The people were burned by the great heat. They cursed the name of God, who had control over these plagues. But they refused to change their hearts and lives and give glory to God.

The fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast. And darkness covered the beast’s kingdom. People bit their tongues because of the pain. They cursed the God of heaven because of their pain and the sores they had. But they refused to change their hearts and turn away from the evil things they did.  Revelation 16:9-11 Easy-to-read Version

Ancient Technology: Atlatl, Super Weapon

Poised to launch a dart from an atlatl

[pick your favorite pronunciation: at-lah-t’l, ott-lottle,  or atl-atl from the Aztec]

It’s been 200 years since your family returned to dry land and started repopulating the world. The dragons, elephants, and other really big animals have been busy having babies as well. Your clan is travelling to some pleasantly lonely location where you plan to settle down and name a city after yourself.  But for right now, you just want to find something tasty for supper and that mammoth over the ridge sure looks good. So you pull out your trusty atlatl that Grandpapa Noah himself helped you carve along with the dart your sweetheart fletched for you and call your strapping older boys to help catch some grub.

One of the many exciting things I learned about researching for this blog was the weapon I’m going to talk about today. I’d never even heard of this thing before! Yet, as I study this out, quite a few of our ancestors would be shocked that we could have so nearly forgotten what helped them survive and thrive after the Flood.

According to Evolutionary timelines, the Atlatl or Spear Thrower has been in use for 40,000 years with evidence dating to 25,000 years ago. Basically, we have examples going as far back as we can find evidence of people living all around the world as it now is. Here are some of the early examples of Spear Throwers:

I tried to find early samples from Africa because many sites will tell you that is where they were first used.  But I couldn’t find any. Turns out some other people completely disagree with this assumption (see more in my Quotes article). Does this make them change their story to the public? Not likely.

So why were our early forefathers so fond of this strange seeming thing? Although the Atlatl comes in many forms and sizes, the thing they all share is leverage and spring action. The actual flying part of the weapon is known as a “dart” although it is longer than an arrow and even more flexible. A grown man using a reproduction Atlatl is capable of sending a dart accurately at speeds of 90mph [145kph] over distances of more than 656ft [200m]. The penetration into a target is far better than modern bullets, so they could strike deep into a large animal’s flesh.

When early archeologists found some of these things, they tried recreating them using stiff spears as the flying weapon. It was a miserable failure. So, they figured they’d got it all wrong and kept trying different missiles, right? No, being Evolutionary in their thinking, they figured these ancient people were numbskulls who couldn’t do any better and felt superior. Finally in the 1980s a man named Bob Perkins figured out that they were using the wrong missile. This guy has been studying more and more about how amazing these first weapons really were.

If you look at the links I’ve listed, you will see that the Atlatl comes in a lot of different versions. One of the more interesting variations is the stone weight that was often strapped to it in the eastern US areas.  There are a number of theories about their purpose including, ” balance weights, sound silencers, performance enhancers, and…” the favorite catchall for unknown objects “charmstones.” Personally, I like Atlatl Bob’s idea of them being silencers.

The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season.
Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing.
The LORD is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works.
The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.
He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them.  Psalm 145:15-19

There are several modern manufacturers for the Atlatl, this one has some cool pictures and recreations.

We’re in League with the UFO fans! The Dinosaur Figurines of Mexico

This is my first full post without pictures.  For some reason, none of the free photo galleries had pictures of these, so I’ve just asked bible.ca for permission to use some of theirs

Just over a year ago my youngest son had to be hospitalized for dehydration.  During the long hours of holding him and praying while he slept, I got to explore the internet.  One of the things I ran into was some of the more famous groups of artwork showing dinosaurs/dragons.  I was thrilled, although not surprised, since I knew dinos were only a day or less older than mankind.

Then, when I went to start this blog, I checked out the doubter websites that explain these all away as modern hoaxes.  How was I to know which ones were right?  I’m certainly not going to knowingly pass on a lie just because it fits into my Worldview.  So, I’ve not mentioned many of these finds except in one of my very first posts.

Today I want to share about the dinosaur figurines of Acámbaro, Mexico.  Here’s what the doubters say  about them:

  • The excavator wasn’t an archeologist, he didn’t even dig up these figurines
  • Instead he paid locals a peso for each figure brought to him
  • There was no dirt or age patina on any of the objects
  • The places where the figures were excavated showed signs of tunneling off to the side to artificially insert the figurines
  • There was even modern dung in the fill of these tunnels
  • Very few of the figures were broken, even though the careless excavators were breaking “real” artifacts left and right
  • Those few figurines that were broken had been made to look old so they would have the appearance of age

All of these claims turn out to be based on the testimony of a man named Charles DiPeso who visited Acámbaro, Mexico where these dino figures were found, several years after the excavator had made his reports.  After spending a few hours investigating the circumstances, he returned to America and wrote a book about his experiences.

There are a couple of more reasons the doubters give for disbelieving that these figures are old:

  • There are just too many of them, between 35,000 and 50,000, to be real.  Therefore all of them must be modern fakes
  • They don’t date well using Radiocarbon and Thermoluminescence dating
  • They are too well preserved to be authentically old
  • None of the other cultures of Mexico made dino art

I could spend several posts poking logic holes in each of these reasons:

Too much evidence is proof of falsehood?  Try that in court.

Dating techniques are one of the major gods in the Evolutionary/Uniformitarian pantheon, but their gods let them down this time.  The video below discusses the dating problems below.  Wikipedia points out that this was done in the early ’50s when the science of dating was brand new, and therefore unreliable.  Now, all they have to do is never again carefully date the figurines and this makes an excellent excuse.

As for their preservation, do we discount mummies as recent hoaxs because they are too well preserved to be authentically old?  These figurines show signs of having been purposely buried.  They were found under ancient roads and home foundations that would have protected them from corrosion and damage.

As for the other cultures: there are a lot of other cultures with dino art, but they tend to be early when mankind was spread out just getting going on filling the earth.  If you look a little further afield you won’t have any trouble finding dino art.

Last week I ran into this video that another Creationist group shared on facebook; unfortunately it’s longer than your average sermon:

Mystery of Acambaro,Dinosaur Figurines, Fact or Fraud

The same group has put together a photo and text video (no sound) that’s 17 minutes long covering the witness confirmations:

12 Witnesses to the Figurines of Acámbaro

Those who believe these figurines to be genuine have a couple of serious advantages over Wikipedia.  There are a lot more witnesses willing to claim that these are real.  These witnesses were actually there at the discovery of these objects.  Some of the witnesses themselves are doing the talking, not just siting a book from 60 years ago (and other sources siting the same book).

If you want to be able to defend the reality of these ancient artworks for yourself, I highly recommend you listen to this talk by an eye witness, if you are too young or busy to worry about all that, you will have a blast looking at the amazing pictures we have of a tiny fraction of the collection.

As for the reason for the title, I ran into this article which is worth a visit with your parents at a conspiracy website (did you know there are genetic reasons why we’ve had our presidents, and that there’s going to be a UFO visiting the Olympics in London? did you, did you??)  I’ve pointed this out before, but it does tickle my funny bone while at the same time it makes me sad because they still won’t submit to their Savior and Creator.

Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit.
Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith the LORD.
For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.  Jeremiah 2:11-13
